taping
There are two main types/reasons for taping a joint; preventative taping, and taping for the isolation of an injury. Preventative taping is commonly used in netball on a players ankles, knees, wrists and thumbs. This gives the area extra support during the game, lowers the recurrence of injury, and lowers the severity of an injury. Taping over an area, such as the ankle, is also beneficial if a player has previously suffered from an injury in that area as it provides extra support for the weakened ligament. Taping for the isolation of an injury is used when an injury has occurred and the mobility of the joints and muscles affected needs to be reduced. The reduction of movement in turn lessens swelling and pain.
bandaging
Bandaging an injury is commonly used to treat soft tissue injuries such as a sprained ankle. By bandaging the sprained ankle of a netball player, you are able to reduce the swelling, restrict movement, and provide the injured joint with extra support. If there is a injury that requires bandaging as a treatment, it is best to allow a medically quality individual to attend to it, but bandaging can also be applied adequately by others.
